It is 2:30 a.m., and I have just opened one treat for Gracie, my cat, who is nowhere to be found. He probably is gallivanting around looking for rats in the neighbourhood, oblivious of the snack waiting for him. He is not one to stay in the house for long, but he stays within the compound and rarely goes outside outside, you know, close to the road and stuff. He is also more of an indoor-outdoor cat, and I had to buy a collar for him just in case he wanders too far, but I believe he can never get lost. Yes, Gracie is a female name for a male cat, but for that backstory, you will have to look for Nyx.

He exclusively eats what I eat, well, I don’t eat rats or grasshoppers or flies, but you get the point. Anything edible to me is, by default, edible to him. So his diet is often what I eat and a very large amount of omena and maandazi. For a two-year-old cat, he eats like a teenager who thinks it is the end of the world. That said, he tried his first cat treat two days ago when Mrs. Jomo graciously gifted me a batch of them. If cats could smile, he was smiling the entire time. Like, do you know when you eat your first croissant or drink your first slush, and your life changes? Like you now see your life before and after that bite and drink? That was as much as I could see from his body language, as I can explain.

Gracie went from being a nonchalant cat to a very much chalant one. The changes were not drastic because it was his first time, but they were visible enough for me. He is a fast eater, like me, but when that first slab of tuna hit his plate, he finished it within seconds. I am a big fan of trying out new things, and he is, too, so he was so eager to try it out that I, frankly, was shocked. I will never know how his treats taste, but I know how they make him feel, and that is something I will always strive to replicate with the treats I have.

The Man of The Hour

He is yet to come back from his forays (after all, he is a cat doing cat things), and it is only the third time he will find a snack waiting for him. If I give myself treats for simply existing, he can also have his own treats; and now I know where to find them. He doesn’t need a treat for doing a good thing, but I always give him a treat for being himself, and boy, he is himself 24/7.

So, all I can say is thank you. And I will surely be buying more treats for as long as Gracie comes home.

P.S. This is not a sponsored post, but the treats are from Pet Store Kenya.

From Me To You

The White Cat – Pierre Bonnard (1984)

Gracie came back the next day and started aura farming for absolutely no reason! He does that sometimes, and I often just let him be, because if he wants to sit on the fence, what can you really do?

To the July babies, I hope you enjoy discovering new fruits that could be blended. I have been blending anything and everything, and boy, I am getting better at this blending thing. However, when I sleep after drinking juice, I wake up very parched and thirsty like someone who has a hangover. I guess the sweetness has an effect I never thought of. I hope when you sleep after drinking juice, you never feel parched.
